The story of how the Lobster Trap came to be in North Conway New Hamshire. Bill and Ellen Cuccio and their family operate their restaurant in the Mount Washington Valley.

From the beginning……
The Lobster Trap has been serving locals and visitors to the Mount Washington Valley since 1958. That’s 52 years! The Trap was founded by a native gentleman named Henry Thompson, born circa 1899. Henry loved living in the valley, but he also loved fresh lobster and decided that it would be easier to bring the little lobsters to North Conway, rather than figuring out how to make the land mass between Mount Washington and the coast of Maine part of the Atlantic. Henry’s penchant for fresh seafood and lobster, coupled with his innate creativity and brilliance led him to design, develop and construct a bio-filter and particulate filter that, when implemented, mimics the conditions found in the pristine waters off the coast of Maine. The apparatus that Henry designed is the equivalent of the technology used in today’s seafood suppliers and supermarkets.
Fast forward to 1982……
A young ski-loving restaurant operator and his beautiful bride arrived on the Mount Washington Valley scene looking for the ideal place to raise their two sons. Fate led to the passing of Henry in 1981 and it was time for his wife Harriet to sell the business to someone who would carry on the tradition of bringing fresh seafood, and a passion for entertaining guests, to the residents and vacationers in North Conway.
It was a match made in heaven! Bill and Ellen Cuccio became the new owner/operators of The Lobster Trap, and with the aid of their sons Bill Jr., Brian, and their daughter Jenny who arrived in 1988, have been running the hands-on, family business.
No one doubts that the Cuccio family made the right decision in 1982. “The people living in and visiting our valley are the best, and we couldn’t think of anywhere else we would rather be! We want to make the next 52 years as memorable as the first!”
Located on the scenic West Side Road in North Conway, The Lobster Trap is open daily for lunch and dinner featuring Early Bird and daily specials. Renowned for the finest in fresh Maine lobster, Maine seafood, fresh cut sirloin steaks, and mouth watering Italian specialties, the menu offerings are the culmination of a combined 50 years of Cuccio chef experience.
